It’s getting closer and closer to Spring and what I do at the beginning of Spring is Detox my digestive system. And by that I mean stomach and its mucosal layer, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine and intestinal lining. And of course the liver, kidneys and the bladder.
There are many levels of Detox program available and it’s up the the individual as to how deep and for how long they want to detox. I tend to do it for 1 month and I cut out these:
- dairy
- grains
- sugar
- alcohol
- coffee
- black tea
- red meat
- processed foods
So what do I eat? Lots of vegetables, fruit, pulses, nuts and seeds, chicken, fish and oily fish and I drink water and any herbal tea.
There are three phases of Detoxification and they are equally important and need certain nutrients to function properly.
Phase 1 – Cytochrome P450 enzymes modify toxins to produce free radicals
Phase 2 – Detoxify metabolites from Phase 1 so they are ready to be expelled from the body
Phase 3 – Reduces toxic load in the small intestine and helps eliminate xenobiotics, transportation of conjugated metabolics occurs after Phase 2
So we need to eat while we Detox otherwise we don’t excrete all the toxins from our body and they will be reabsorbed back which is the last thing we want. And by toxins I mean alcohol, drugs and medications, heavy metals, pesticides, cigarette smoke, preservatives and additives.
If you are not sure where to start with Detox book an appointment and I will support you through the whole process.
